Backstory is a work in progress, but the gist of things is currently:
Sik'siss was a commanding officer in one of the navies in the Serpent Isles region of Eos. When he was faced with court martial for events he may-or-may-not have been involved in (his version changes based on what would most benefit him in any given situation), he and his crew deserted.
As is common among "freelance sailors" in that region, they turned to piracy.
